Hello and welcome,

My name is Heather, otherwise known as SLO Lucky Runs, as I live in San Luis Obispo (SLO) and believe I am very, very lucky…not only to still be running after 30 plus years but also with my blessed life in general. I am a single mom to a teen son and practice psychotherapy. It, as well as running, is my passion and I am so grateful I’m able to practice both.

I started running in junior high and I’ve been doing it ever since. I freaking love it…still brings tears to my eyes when I get to run, especially with friends I’ve met on social media or in beautiful places I’ve traveled to. I’ve run marathons, half marathons, 10K, 5K and every other race distance you can think of.

I’m also a yoga instructor and spin instructor. One of my thrills is to take yoga and spin from other instructors when I travel. I’m excited by all the new types of both and think the innovation is amazing. I also believe there is plenty of space for all these studios; I don’t understand the fear or scarcity model of thinking. Abundance rules! There’s enough for each of us.

In my 30’s I competed in figure bodybuilding contests with NPC. I learned so much from that discipline and training; the diet alone proved to me I had what it takes to go the distance with whatever I put my mind to.

I also deal with some auto-immune issues. I have Celiac, Chrohns, Interstitial Cystitis and I am prone to shingles when I’m stressed. As a yogi and psychotherapist, I know the need and benefit for good self care so I strive to always get sleep (number 1), fresh air, water, and eat good foods. I also monitor my stress with yoga and meditation. I’ve eliminated all toxic people from my life and believe “go where you’re celebrated, not just tolerated.”

I hope to share with you my love of running, athletics, travel, food and just plain being grateful for each and every day I’ve been given. My humor may sometimes be off the cuff (I call it zen with an edge) but know that I’m “what you see is what you get”. I will also throw in some psychology since, well  heck, I am that by nature and career!

Thanks for sharing this journey with me. Remember, one move changes everything.
